The reason abortion rights do not and will not exist for women who are raped by strangers, acquaintances, boyfriends, husbands, and brothers, fathers, grandfathers, cousins, and uncles is because what a man wants, a man gets.  For men in power to reject a pregnant woman’s right to not have a child of rape or incest is to protect the right of men to take what they want. The only condition some of them are willing to consider is the life of the pregnant woman.  Impregnating a woman means a man has made his claim on her, he owns her future, but only if he wants to.  He has options.  He has rights.  He can disappear if he wants to avoid being accountable.  He can relieve himself a second time by walking or running away, just like a responsible person does.

Some Republicans are so thrilled with their superior status as powerful men that they say and do things that are truly reprehensible. Witness Matt Gaetz, Ted Cruz, Ron DeSantis, Greg Abbott and their incredible hubris that clothes them in religious righteousness.  Some of them do not even pretend it is religion that forces them to believe women are chattel. They just know it because they are impervious to being held responsible for the damage they do to the people they want to, and do, fuck.  After all, these men know their rights.

If women are not attractive, desirable and fuckable, they are even lower in status that women who are.  After all, men believe that they should have they women they want, for now. And the women can be discarded in favor of other women when they so choose.  That’s the beauty of being male. It’s all a buffet table of women who will have them. No responsibility beyond a good time. No accountability for the sperm they invariably leave behind. These men are entitled and narcissistic. They believe others exist for their own use and gratification.  Who taught these horrible men about being human beings in a society? Who set them up as little gods who can decide what other people’s lives will be like?

Men who make laws about a woman’s body and future are protecting their rights of access to women. They also are punishing women who had sex with someone other than themselves. Men who really care about the women they have sex with seldom require her to deal with pregnancy alone, although when the going gets tough… 

And it is true that the most dangerous time to be a woman is when she is pregnant.  More women are harmed and killed during or just after pregnancy than at any other time. There must be something pleasurable about having a woman under one’s thumb when she is most vulnerable. Some men like their circumstances this way – being in charge, threatening violence, demanding access to her body, getting pleasure when they want it.  For girls, pregnancy is the most common cause of death.  What creatures wish death upon girls, girls for whom the touch of a man can cause her entire life plan to be rewritten, if she survives it?

The stupidity of some men is incomprehensible.  They want women. They need women. They can hate women because of these needs and wants. They can force women into giving them what they are entitled to have – pleasure when they want it.  No wonder the incel types exist – they can’t get what they believe, no, they know they deserve by virtue of being male. No one likes to be at the mercy of someone else, especially someone who is not as physically strong, not ready to fist fight, not attracted to him. So, he punishes her for the desire she stirs in him and won’t let him relieve at his pleasure. So, he takes. He impregnates. He leaves. He rules that she is a slut because she had sex with him, even if coerced or forced. He makes laws that prevent her from making her own decisions about the impregnation.  He makes her feel shame, fear, distress, and despair.  What a guy. I’m sure he is pleased as punch that he has so much control.

Every man who believes he has a say in whether a woman should carry a pregnancy should be forced to watch girls and women having miscarriages, c-sections, vaginal births. He should have to be available to her while she is pregnant because the most important thing is that she have this child. He should stay with her while she recovers, learns to breastfeed, or whatever else she needs to do. He should care for her incision, her bleeding and cramping, her pain, and prepare her food, support her every need because she has brought this most important new person in to the world. After all, isn’t that why he objects so strenuously to her not going through pregnancy? The new person is so clearly vital to his existence as a man, a human being, a lawmaker. He can’t have a new person without her, so he sees her immense value not only as a person in her own right, but as a human being who can bring forth a new person.

Right.  Matt Gaetz is signing up now to do this for a girl or woman he has impregnated, a girl or woman who is fuckable. So is DeSantis, Abbott, Mastriano, Kavanaugh, Gorsuch, Thomas, Alito, and countless others.  The evangelicals especially should have first dibs at being a pregnant woman’s protector and caretaker.  After all, she is doing God’s will by being a vessel for his little new souls.  All pregnant women from the time of conception should be provided a man, preferably the one who impregnated her, to ensure she wants for nothing as she does God’s will. The women who support these men and their misogynistic views are also required to sign up to be helpers for the next full year.  Don’t worry, your employer will recognize the importance of this duty and will pay your salary while you serve this woman and her pregnant state.  Your taxes will support this effort because being pregnant is the most important thing a woman will ever do.  Right?
